The Trouble with PPI

PPI is not an inherently flawed product. It is designed to cover a customer’s loan, mortgage or credit card repayments when he or she is unable to cover those costs, due to a loss of income – an unexpected redundancy, for example.

This is all well and good, but banks, lenders and credit card companies have been offering their own PPI policies with their services. Not only were these policies severly lacking in worth, being overpriced and limited (most PPI policies offered by lenders would only provide coverage for a year) but the tactics employed by the lenders, from the smaller credit card companies to the biggest banks, were often very shady. PPI policies added onto loan policies without the knowledge of customers, or they were given to customers who were led to believe that PPI was a legal requirement.
